Day 8
Today we traveled on the Cabot Trail which took ten hours and 15 minutes. We sure were give out when we arrived back at the MH, ready for some rest and catch up on the events of today. It was a 350 miles journey with I think was 100 miles of construction.
First stop was the Alexander Graham Bell Museum in Beddack, wasn't what I really expected, but we can say we've been there. From there we continued on the trail and We saw a Moose and I had to have a picture, then on to Angie's Family Restaurant, where we enjoyed a meal of English Fish and Chips (Fries).
We continued on to Meat Cove, the farthest point in Nova Scotia. There was a village on the side of the mountain, which was very difficult to reach. Back down the mountain to the trail we stopped at a Whale Interpretive Center in Pleasant Bay. First time I realized that Whales at one time were human beings. Ha! Monkeys, now whales, whats next.
We stopped many times on the way to look at the scenery and take some pictures. We came to an early times museum in Cteichamp and saw some tools used in the early days in work with thread making cloth material and other items with the thread.
Our last stop was Joe's Scarecrows, I don't know how many he had displayed as I didn't count them and could not take pictures of all. Reminded me of the hand made wind mills we saw in Kansas.
Tomorrow we will travel to Shearbrooke and don't know it we'll have Internet or not, until then.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Finally able to have Internet for a few days without being in a hurry. I'll fill you in from the daily log I've been keeping each day as we traveled.
NOVA SCOTIA TRIP
September 7, 2010
Day 1
We departed 2 PM stopping off in Fort Lawn, SC to get a price on remolding the bath in the motor home. We then traveled to Flying J Travel Center just outside Rock Hill for fuel and propane. Discovered that I did not put in the drop hitch on the motor home so carried the Motor home to Wal-Mart and left it while we made the return trip home to get the hitch. Arrived back at Wal-Mart at 10 PM, spent the night there.
Day 2
Travel on to Camping World in Statesville, NC to get new tires on the motor home, we got away from there at 1:30 and traveled on to Harrisonburg, VA where we again spent the night in Wal-Mart parking lot. Thank goodness for Wal-Mart they save a lot on campground fees. The old dogs are tried tonight looking forward to a good night’s rest.
Day 3
No Internet again last night I hope to get the blog posted soon. We had breakfast at McDonalds in Woodstock, VA, and then traveled on to Middletown, NY for a nights rest at Sam’s. (Wally’s Big Brother). These traveling days are rough when you’re under the weather. Sure plan on looking for a clinic tomorrow.
Day 4
Good night’s rest at least better than the night before, had to sleep in the recliner last night in order to be able to breathe. Definitely I’m going to look for that Doctor today as we travel. Breakfast guess where, at the old farmers place. Found email so I sent an update but nothing on the blogs.
Traveled to WestFord, MA for lunch at ChiIi’s and asked the waitress about an Emergency Clinic, she didn’t know one but said CVS across the street had a “Minute Clinic” so I went to see a NPA. And discovered I was sick and she gave me medicine and said if I got worse go to a clinic in Nova Scotia as they have better clinics in Canada. Tonight I feel maybe a tad better but we made it to Augusta, Maine for the night again with Wally.
Day 5
After a good night’s rest we had breakfast at Denny’s, yes one day without McDonalds. We traveled on to Saint John’s, NB arriving around 4 PM their time. (Atlantic Time Zone) Enjoyed the evening watching College Football, thank goodness for Dish on the road. Tomorrow we will arrive at the Campground in Amherst, NS which will be our home base while in Nova Scotia.
Day 6
Breakfast in the Motor Home and then to church at Edith Avenue United Baptist Church in Saint John, NB. We had lunch in the MH and continued on our journey to Amherst, NS. We stopped at McDonalds for a snack and break. We continue to NS stopping at the visitor’s Center for information to assist us during our stay here. We traveled on to Wal-Mart in Amherst for the evening. Tomorrow we will travel on to Linwood, NS where we will stay a few days and begin our tour of NS.
Day 7
We finally had the opportunity to do some touring this afternoon. We left Amherst for Linwood (not even on map) where we are staying a few days, and yes, internet.
Believe me this was a trying afternoon as we travel on what they called a road, but believe me I don’t know of any roads in South Carolina that would compare. It was suppose to be a scenic route to a fishing village which when we arrived you couldn’t tell. We continued on to the Fortress of Louisbourg, A National Historic Site. It was France’s most important stronghold and seaport (during the War of Spanish Succession) in what is now Atlantic Canada.
Well we arrived at 4:45 and the last tour was at 4:30; two and half hours to see nothing. We left disappointed but glad we didn’t get to walk the 3 hour tour. We traveled back to the Campground to be ready for tomorrow’s drive of the Cabot Trail. Probably will have to spend at least one night in a motel.
Oh I almost forgot, we took a side trip in Louisbough to Lighthouse Point, on the way out there was a fox in the road and I tried to get his picture as he sat beside the road but by the time I got the Camera ready he went off to the side and I thought in the woods, but Marianne said he just went and sat down on a rock. On the way out he was again beside the road and sat for a pose.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
It's been a while since our last posting on this web site as we have been using, www.theshepherdshands.com for our ministry in West Virginia. We are now in Dothan, AL attending my brother's daughters wedding. We will be back home Monday evening to leave out Tuesday for our adventure of Nova Scotia.
We visited Nova Scotia several years back and had just begun to tour the island when my mother had an accident and nothing would do but her son to come home. Pray that we will have a safe and enjoyable time.

DONNA'S HAVEN
Donnas Haven is the name that I gave to the ministry of Donna Martin in Danese, West Virginia. I meet Donna while filling in at the Calvary Baptist Church in Meadow Bridge, West Virginia.
Donna has been helping the people of Fayette County since the early 80’s. The schools and folks around call her expressing their needs and she reaches out to them in whatever means available. People bring her their gently used clothes and when someone calls with a need she provides or uses the telephone to find what they need.
In the beginning she used her daughter’s old play house. Later she added another portable building to assist in her ministry. We were impressed with her love of the folks and how she is ministering that we told her that we would help her in the ministry.
Back home we asked a few churches to help us with some clothing, to our surprise we were overwhelmed with what we received. But God saw the need to be much larger than what we envisioned. Donna was not able to handle all that we had carried, so we placed what we could in her garage and carried the rest to others ministries in West Virginia.
Now that is the purpose of this letter. The Lord laid on my heart to provide another building for the ministry in Danese. I want to provide a 14 X 30 portable building to go with what she already has so that she can keep on hand more clothing than she has in the past. The building will cost roughly $ 5,500 completely finished. The building will be a hull and I have already arranged for a crew to go up and finish the inside.
But I need funds to do this and I need folks to contribute to help make this a reality, would you prayerfully consider helping us in reaching our goal for the building. Any gift of any size will be greatly appreciated.

On The Road Again
We left Wednesday (3/17) for our trip to Lighthouse Baptist Mission in Ivydale, West Virginia, delivering the food and clothes that we had collected. We stopped in Summersville, West Virginia, where we spent the night. After a good night’s rest we continued the last leg of the trip arriving at our destination at 9 AM.
We were greeted by Rick Canfield and the staff of the mission as they were busy distributing the food to those who had already arrived. After unloading our supplies, Pastor Rick gave us a tour of the building which three years ago served as the elementary school for the town. The school closed and the local students now travel to another town. The building was placed up for bids and the church purchased and shared the building with the school for the last year holding services in the gym. This is the first building that the church has owned since it is only a few years old. The building serves as the church and the mission ministering to the community.
We were very impressed with the volunteers who give of their time in helping others, I joined in helping put items in the grocery bags and Marianne helped give them out at the window. We were able to witness first hand a young lady and her children who were new to the community coming in for assistance. Pastor Rick talked with her and then met her needs by giving her some needed groceries and some clothes for the children which came from some that we had just delivered.
What a joy for Marianne and I to be able to minister in this way, but of course it could not happen without help from you and the local churches. The clothes, food, and other gifts that you brought always overwhelms us; God always goes beyond our expectations, and I praise Him for using you to meet the needs. Thank you for your willingness to help us.
Pray for the ministry, as God continues to lead.

The Needs Are Great
The cupboard is bare; those are the words that I received from West Virginia yesterday. It’s been a very hard winter to date with over fifty inches of snow and more on the way. More jobs lost for six hundred and fifty people, those who have been bringing the needed food and clothing has been hindered not only by the weather but also the economy.
These folks in West Virginia are not able to help one another and they depend on the help from other areas. I have preached throughout my ministry that you can’t give what you don’t have. That also brings to mind how many times we spend $$$$ on something we really don’t need when we could have been blessed beyond measure by giving to another cause.
We need food items right now more than we need the clothing, but we will take both. I have contacted two churches that I have not asked previously to help this time. I’m so thankful for those of you who have supported this work in West Virginia and would appreciate any help you can give now. But the greatest need now is for can goods, paper products as well as Dollar General Cards of any amount.
Yes, these are difficult days for many people today; some whom we love dearly are suffering due to the economy. Yes all have felt the results of a strain on the budget due to inflation and the enormous utility bills due to the extreme cold. Let’s not close our eyes or turn our heads to the fact that some of our closest love ones and friends are hurting today. It’s hard enough to feel the times with the dollar not going as far as it use to, but there are those who have lost their jobs and searching with no results as of yet, then there are those who have had to take on a second job just to make ends meet giving up valuable time their family.
Let me urge you to pause for a little time to think of those around you and to prayer for those we know who are affected. I's bigger than I can handle but not bigger than God, it's in His hands.
I want to leave you with these words of the apostle John. "But whoever has the world's goods, and beholds his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? 18 Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth. 19 We shall know by this that we are of the truth, and shall assure our heart before Him, 20 in whatever our heart condemns us; for God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. 21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; 22 and whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight. 23 And this is His commandment that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us. 24 And the one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And we know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us." 1 John 3:17-24
